  which ever country you come from, if you are a football fan you know of the f.a cup.

  because the f.a cup is the oldest and most prestigious cup competition in the world.

  or at least that's the way it was when i was a kid.. now this wonderful competition has been cheapened to a non event.

  The Rebel, Stan you sound like my wife, she hated it when as a family we attended a match, she never understood that 20, 000 grown men ( many of whom I am sure are accountants and bank managers ) could shout " The referee is a wanker"

  Now I live far from Watford f.c so sadly attending matches is a special occasion for me, I am however lucky my wife appreciates that, even allows my boy of 10 to come with me. ( secretly she knows we are both shouting " the referee is a wanker" when he makes decisions that goes against the team)

  What happened to my Keith...

  having a free day today, i thought i would listen to some of my favourite music on you-tube.

  it has just occurred to me why i wasn't enjoying the music i am listening to as much as i hoped.

  i am listening to concerts of the band with origional members of the group having been replaced.. that's why as i post i am putting on " the who", but the origional stuff with " keith moon's" brilliant and explosive drumming.

  Having a free day today, I thought I would listen to some of my favourite music on you-tube. It has just occurred to me why I wasn't enjoying the music I am listening to as much as I hoped. I am listening to concerts of the band with origional members of the group having been replaced.

  That's why as I post I am putting on " The Who", but the origional stuff with " KEITH Moon's" brilliant and explosive drumming. And that's why I miss my " Keith"

  So my question is whilst many great rock bands loose members, often due to untimely death, can you name one band that has the same energy when origional members are replaced?

  Snugglebunny, that goal by Radford was voted 97th in the 100 greatest sporting moments.

  Yes the F.A cup has made so many national heroes and given so many towns and cities a special place in English culture. I will never forget Jim Montgomory the Sunderland goalkeeping for his display against Leeds, in the 73 final. It's amazing every football fun knows about the 1953 Stanley Matthews final, even if we weren't born in 1953.

  For a football fan F.A cup finals were once like our favourite songs, we always remember the year and what was happening when the match took place.

  Punk: ( Q) "what sort of EX JW books do you folks like to read?

  The Rebel: ( A) as I recently mentiond on another thread the books that most helped me get over and understand my W.T exsperience were Defying Hitler by, Sabastian Hafner, ( this booked showed me how Hitler by beginning in such small ways turned a civilised, intelligent people in to a helpless, penned in flock of sleep. And by doing so this book also bought home to me that all I was doing on the ministry was exploiting people's psychological weaknesses.

  The other book was The Captive Mind by Czeslaw Milosz, as this book helped me see the organisation for what it is, a man made totalitarian government pretending to be under the leadership of Jehover.

  Punk :- " I want to write another book"

  The Rebel, I would love to read an ex- witness book about all the folks that have left the W.T and made successful and happy life's. I think that would be a great book, and a thumps down to the Organisations claim there is no life outside the organisation.

  So If you are going to write another book I think that's a great subject, and I am sure many posters on this forum would contribute with wonderful tales. If you want my story let's discuss royalty monies first :-)

  The day I witnessed Elton John cry.

  The occasion the 1984 cup final, Watford v Everton, and as the teams walked out on to the Wembley turf, the T.V cameras focus on Elton John crying with joy as his beloved Watford f.c challenged for the F.A cup. Sat next to him his then wife, Renete Blaiel ( who insidently knew so little about football she cheered when Everton scored the winning goal) Sadly we the better team lost and Evertons goal was a fluke.:-)

  Now it's sir Elton John and his new spouse is David Furnish, but one thing is still guaranteed if we get to the final again this year, Sir Elton and I will be there and the tears will roll down his and every Watford supporters cheeks if we win.

  Personally I have supported Watford F.C since I was a little boy, there have been so many great times, climbing from the bottom of the 4th to finishing second in the top-flight, relegations and promotions have followed, and play-0ff finals have been won and lost, but winning the f.a cup would still be one of the greatest days in my life.

  Don't forget the giant killers Landy.

  Colchester 3 Leeds United 2

  Hereford 2 Newcastle United 1

  Wrexhan 2 Arsenal 1

  In my opinion getting to the final, and winning the trophy should be an objective of all the big clubs . It really disappoints me how Watford have taken the F.A cup so cheaply this season. The costs of the tickets are bloody expensive, the away comes are travelled to by loyal supporters at great cost and the manager fields a second rate side.

  Anyway all Watford supporters and the whole town would love to get to the final this season. I hope we take the quarter final seriously, it would be pathetic if we field a weekend team against Leeds.

  Personally I never imagined a time football could become so much about money that Watford f.c would be more interested finishing 7th rather than 12th in the premiership than winning the f.a cup. And that's essentially what it comes down to.

  I would love an afternoon at Wembley in May, and it could be the first major honour the club has won since it was founded in 1881.

  I am not going to waste my life detesting anyone, but my personal hell is trying to reason with those I feel have been victimized by a cult. Having said that many in the cult are not victims they realise what they teach is wrong, The way I handle that problem is I pity them having to get self worth by having to live a lie- personally living such a life I would go insane quickly.

  We're Ashya Kings parents right?

  do you remember the case?

  jehovers witness parents did a runner without telling the medical staff caring for their seriously ill child and took him to receive proton therapy in praque as this treatment was not available in the u.k.. first most importantly the good news, the boy was declared cancer free last march.. anyway i am sure at the time this issue would have created a lot of heated debate on the forum, as it was a case that created a media frenzy, with the parents and their jehovers witness religious beliefs being heavily critizised .

  however as i followed the case i couldn't help but admire the parents, as i felt they would have acted indepentedly of both the jehovers witness organisation and the u.k medical advice, having in my opinion seriously thought the matter through, and then doing they thought was the best way for treatment.. so if you remember the case my questions are:-.

  Firstly my sympathy to all posters or lurkers that have had to endure the unimaginable pain of a seriously sick child needing an operation

  I noted when this story first broke public opinion in the U..K was firmly against the King family, now that public opinion seems to have changed. Imagine if today was the anniversary of a child's death, and a person looks back on the decision they made. I therefore feel I can't judge a family decision as I was not there during the decision making process nor do not know how the options were presented to a parent. So assuming parents want the best for the child, how can I judge? But I do no that I would never compromise my own ethical and moral conscience to do what i sincerely thought is best for my child. My only hope is that my decision was rational and I didn't learn to regret my decision. If later I discoverd my decision was based on being fed wrong information I would feel I was a murderer. In fact this is where I believe the G.B has a great deal of blood guilt and has caused terrible suffering to many parents.

  The Rebel, your probably correct, as that would then weaken the C.L.

  Anyway the manager explained why he has been fielding weakened sides, he has been resting the players. Geez these are full time professionals, earning in a week what I earn in a year. God forbid these delicate professionals have to earn that money by occasionally playing two games in a week instead of 0ne.

  I should mention I know a few fans who work 50 hours a week, and still never complain about being to tied to attend a game. I should also mention my teams players don't have to worry about playing additional mid-weak European football.

  Which ever country you come from, if you are a football fan you know of the f.a cup. Because the F.A cup is the oldest and most prestigious cup competition in the world. Or at least that's the way it was when I was a kid.

  Now this wonderful competition has been cheapened to a non event. Only one reason for that pure financial grreed. What is football coming to when the first goal is maximising revenue, and finishing one place higher in the premier is worth more money therefore more important than winning the F.A cup.

  Anyway I am a Watford supporter, one of a group of teams who won't be challenging for a champions league place, nor are we in danger of relegation. So why is winning the f.a cup not a priority for Watford? Instead we have struggled through to the quarter finals by fielding weakened teams, youngsters and players who are not first team regulars.

  Oh it would be such a magical day for a Watford supporter to be at Wembley in May, the last time we were in the final was in 1984 when we lost to Everton. That was in the days when the f.a cup was still the greatest cup competition n the world. The truth is for many Watford supporters who were there in 88 we have longed to return ever since and it's now been 28 years,

  Anyway for fans of the F.A cup how would you suggest this wonderful competition can become meaningful again? My suggestion is the winners receive a champions league place.
